Finding truly organically grown food products is challenging. Understanding all the certifications and the jargon surrounding an organic product is never ending. Luna Berry Farms keeps our best practices simple and clean.
Food processing has been designed to add a longer shelf life to food products. These additives are the culprits to obesity and disease in humans. There is also the processing “process” itself that unnaturally creates products that humans would not otherwise be able to digest. For instance oils. Palm oil is processed by: “Conversion of crude palm oil to refined oil involves removal of the basic stucture of palm see by using hydrolysis and oxidation, changing the color and flavor. After refining, the oil may be separated (fractionated) into liquid and solid phases by thermo-mechanical means (controlled cooling, crystallization, and filtering), and the liquid fraction (olein) is used extensively as a liquid cooking oil in tropical climates, competing successfully with the more expensive groundnut, corn, and sunflower oils.” (FAO.org). These processes are not natural which the by product undigestible and unhealthy for humans.

At Luna Berry Farms we have made the choice to eat FREE of pesticides and chemicals that we believe contaminate our food and environment. We have made a choice to grow foods that have been cultivated in a controlled environment under the strictest of conditions using the most natural fertilizers available. We are constantly networking to learn about best practices and incorporate technology to help us to automate our program. This helps us maintain lower costs in production and less expensive product for our customers.
We have chosen to grow seasonal produce in our greenhouses. This method creates an environment that we can control. Temperature, lighting, fertilizing and natural pollination can all be controlled under these conditions. We will also introduce aquaponics in our greenhouse environment to help us naturally fertilize our plants.
